Thinking of visiting there in November for about 10 days
Air NZ price into Auckland and return from Christchurch both via Singapore is £820 pp which seems bloody good. Any other airlines routes recommended?
Advice please on the must see places and best airports to fly in and out of to make best use of time, best way to get from north to South Island, etc.
We're in our 60's so no bungee and white water rafting shit please!
Any advice appreciated.

We stayed in the homestays after a while as we got bored with hotels. They are like b&bs and far more interesting

10 days probably isn't enough to see the good bits of England I haven't yet seen.
And I've lived here for 60 years.

What Chester rd said, 10 days is nowhere long enough to see and enjoy what this country has to offer, we moved to NZ 46 years ago and live in a place called Wanganui (sometimes spelled Whanganui) which is on the West coast of the North island, enjoy your trip mate.

Not sure if already mentioned but the TranzAlpine train between Christchurch and Greymouth is well worth getting on. One of the most scenic train journeys in the world.

i'm out there for the cricket in march/april ,flying up to Wellington from Christchurch after the second test and hired a car for a 4 day drive back up to Auckland ,hoping to do Taupo and Hawks bay for bit of Wine tasting .

10 days is not long enough, 3 weeks minimum if you want to do both Islands IMO. I had a month there, hired a car and stayed in motels which were pretty reasonable. South Island I liked Milford Sound & Te Anau best, Around Blenheim/Nelson is quite nice too, Christchurch is a bit of a nothing place so wouldn't bother spending much time there. North Island I liked Napier / Hawkes Bay, Rotarua, Bay of Islands. I gave Auckland a miss, a lot more interesting places to go and spend time in.

Just like to second NYC's shout for Milford Sound. Fair old drive to get to, but definitely worth it.

I moved here 4 years ago. Live in a place called Cass Bay, which is near Christchurch.
What the others have said in terms of places. Hiring a motorhome or campervan is probably the best way to see the country. Motor home camp sites pretty much everywhere and means you can see a new place every day without the need to book.
November will still technically be our spring but weather should be in the late teens / early twenties. February is the best month by far to visit.
On the South island, Queenstown, Dunedin, Lake Wanaka, Akaroa (nr Christchurch) plus at the top of South Island, Nelson and Kaiteriteri are just a few places to look at.

Was there a year ago and drove around north (as far as Auckland) and south islands for 4 weeks (Interisland ferry links islands). Incredible place. All fantastic but a few highlights : Rotorua/Wai-O-Tapu/Waimangu, Huka Falls, Queen Charlotte Drive, Punakaiki, Hokatiki Gorge, Haast Pass, Franz Josef/Fox Glaciers, Wanaka, Queenstown, Milford Sound (via Te Anau, Mount Cook (Hooker Valley walk), Akaroa.

Beautiful place, brother lives there so get to visit. Things I have done and would recommend.
North Island: Auckland (some really nice neighborhoods such as Devonport, Takepuna, Mount Eden and the North Shore Bays). Waiheke Island is a short boat ride away. Piha beach is a short drive and beautiful.
Longer drive will take you to other regions such as the coromandel peninsula, Napier, the Bay of Islands.
South Island: Queenstown area is beautiful. It’s s long drive but Milford sound is a must. We drove from Queenstown over to the coast and up past the fox glacier and back over Arthur’s pass to Christchurch to fly back.
Just some ideas but google it for more. It’s great there and good choice. I would maybe go in December or January to catch the best weather.
